Public university in Bangladesh: In Bangladesh, there are 40 public Universities that provide higher education to students. All divisions have at least one public university such as there is eight public university in Dhaka division, four universities in Khulna division, three in Rajshahi division and so on. It is considered that the best students of our countries are studied in public universities. But it is not the full truth. There are many categories where private university students are honored for their achievements. However, here we are talking about top 5 public universities in Bangladesh. So let’s start.

01. Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET)
One of the most exalted institutions in our country is Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). This institute is located in the heart of Dhaka city. About 5500 students are studying in under-graduation and post-graduation in Engineering, Architecture, Science and Planning programs and 500 teachers are teaching in different departments. Nowadays, BUET has three institutes and sixteen departments under five faculties. Each year, the intake of undergrad students is around 900 and for the post-grad like Ph.D. and Masters programs is around 1000. In addition, the oldest institution for study Architecture and Engineering is BUET.
02. The University of Dhaka
The University of Dhaka established on the first day of July 1921. At that time, P.J. Hartog was the first Vice-Chancellor of the University. It was set up about 600 acres of land in Ramna, Dhaka. Nowadays, the University is consist of 11 institutes, 13 faculties, 77 departments, 3 hostels, 20 residential halls and more than 50 research centers. The amount of enrolled students in every year is 37,064. The number of teachers is around 1,885. At this moment, one of the leading institutions in Asia for higher studies is The University of Dhaka.
03. The University of Chittagong
The University of Chittagong established in 18th November 1966. This was located in the suburban area of Hathazari, Chittagong. The area of the University is 1753.88 Acres with many hills, lakes, and planes. The university is consist of 08 faculties, 43 departments, 07 institutes, 05 research centers. About 23,836 students (Male 15361, Female 8475) are studying in under-graduation and post-graduation in B.Sc. in Engineering, B.Pharma, M.Pharma, B.Sc. (Honors) in Fashion Design and Technology, BDS, MBBS etc. The number of teachers is 899 (Male 712, Female 187).
04. The University of Rajshahi
The University of Rajshahi is also known as RU or Rajshahi University is the second largest University in Bangladesh. It established in 1953. There are 58 departments of 10 faculties. The area of the University is 753 acres in Motihar, Rajshahi. The University is consist of around 25,000 students and close to 1000 teachers. It has many hosting programs in arts, law, engineering, agriculture, science, social science, medical science and business studies. The natural view of Rajshahi University is simply mind-blowing. For the purpose of residence, there are many halls for both male and female students.
05. Jahangirnagar University
Jahangirnagar University is one of the most famous and ancient public university in Bangladesh located in Savar, Dhaka. This University is one and only full residential University in Bangladesh. It established in 1970 by the Jahangir Nagar Muslim University Ordinance of the government of Pakistan. At first, the total number of students is 150 who were enrolled in four departments: Mathematics, Geography, Statistics, and Economics. But at present, the number of students is around 16,781 (Undergraduates 10,983 and Postgraduates 3,501) are studying in different departments like Engineering, Architecture, Honors, Law, Ph.D., Masters etc. The area of the campus is 697.65 Acres. Moreover, the University has many cultural organizations that run by teachers and students. There are also bus services between Dhaka and the campus provided for teachers, students, and employees.
